It is the Human quest for meaningfulness which gives rise to admiration.

When a Human looks out at the world around them they seek a place for themselves therein. How they determine which place they will take is based on what they perceive as meaningful. Humans seek a place for themselves within the structure of civilization which they perceive as valuable or meaningful. The bits of knowledge which cause them to value a certain person, group, or mannerism are what constitutes their admiration. They are the bits of knowledge that a Human relates to them self and uses to gauge their own self value or meaningfulness. If we observe a certain individual or group of individuals as having these things that we admire we frequently admire that individual or group. Which means essentially that we try to emulate them so as to create our own persona into something that is likewise meaningful.

What we admire defines us and it is the thing in the direction of which we tend to move even without thinking about it. So in Napoleon's quote, above, we see that the word "spirit" is in fact Human admiration.

Furthermore, truth, or accurate knowledge, is the solution to all of our problems and can stand as the one thing unanimously admired by all Humans; as all beasts value that which is accommodating. Consequently, it is in the direction of enhanced conceptions of truth that we all more or less move even without knowing. Which defines "spirit" not only as the things which Humans admire, but as an evolutionary procession towards enhanced conceptions of truth.

What has resulted in our Entertainment Based Society is a general transference of Human admiration from knowledge and expertise to entertainment and ornamentation. This is what has shifted modern Human values into a disparaging direction and laid the foundation for such a vast amount of complete or partial insanity.

All to frequently in the modern world Humans base their admiration on nothing more than empty glamour, glitter and pompous affectation. So true has this become that a person in the modern world is likely to receive more admiration simply for having a certain appearance than even scholastic achievements or real contributions to Humanity. This is the reason entertainers frequently become elected officials. It is also the reason almost everybody seeks a large house and an expensive car. It has shifted the pursuits of modern world children from science and knowledge to "rock stars" and "movie stars".

So far down the road of entwined misinterpretations based on appearance has the value system of the modern world become that nearly everybody is trying to outdo everybody else in ornamentation and pomposity without regard to authenticity or value as pertains to the greater development of civilization or the Human condition. This is what has laid the foundation for the emotionless exploitation and covering up of the citizenry by the general Petty Capitalist caste. The Petty Capitalists themselves had a lot to do with the advent of this value shift, from knowledge and expertise to ornamentation, as a means of furthering their own individual wealth. They succeeded quite well with it until at last almost nobody, or extremely few, are wealthy as a result of enhancing the general Human condition or proliferating Human life. Ninety percent of the wealthy caste are simply wealthy because their parents were wealthy before them and this provided them with access to a greater amount of affectation and ornamentation and consequently greater prospects in the modern world under this distorted value system where in the citizenry admire chiefly appearance.

Indicating that the center of valuations, or general human admiration, is so off basis with truth in the modern world, or that which would "...ensure mans prosperity, his future, and his great right to a future." - Nietzsche "Outline Of Great Books" 1936 Edited By J. A. Hammerton Page 367, that the people are moving in erratic directions trying to synchronize their lives with something that is going absolutely no place; ornamentation and appearance. As such almost everybody in the modern world has to some extent entered into the realm of insanity by having completely left behind the truth of life and progress by coming to value, or admire and move in the direction of, something that does not at all enhance of the Human condition or proliferate Human life.

At this point in the value disorientation of modern civilization there are so many millions of Petty Capitalists whose sole basis for being admired by the citizenry, thus having wealth, is pomposity and affectation that any attempt to revalue the citizenry would immediately meet with ruthless opposition from the Petty Capitalists as it would be a removal of Petty Capitalists from the admiration of the public. Thus Petty Capitalists stand as the primary impediment to the further evolution of Humankind on this planet.

There are of course Human societies which have not been consumed by this complete disorientation of values; many Asian societies have not. And various minority groups, in the modern world, who have for all practical purposes been blocked from admission into the higher echelons of caste adjudicated by level of pomposity which requires sufficient wealth to attain.
